| The First International Conference on Green Buildings took place in the United Arab Emirates in Dubai in May 2005 at the Dubai Chamber of Commerce and Industry Auditorium (see http://icgb05.duc.ac.ae/ ). The conference was sponsored by the Dubai Municipality, the UAE Federal Environmental Agency, the Environmental Research and Wildlife Development Agency (ERWDA), and others including Thermo-Shield®. Members of the World Green Building Council, ASHRAE, Emirates Environmental Group, the Green Building Council of Australia, the UAE Society of Engineers, and scientists from Lawrence Berkley National Laboratory in USA, Dortmund and Sttuguart Universities in Germany, University of Aberdeen King's College in the UK, UAE and Kuwait Universities, and Savannah College of Art & Design in USA took also part in the event where their representatives exposed on different topics from energy conservation, sustainability and proper design. The obejctive of the conference was to create awareness and to initiate the formation of the UAE Green Building Council. The main organizer of the event was the Dubai University college. A follow-up commitee named the UAE Green Building Group was formed and it meets on a regular basis to create support for the UAE Green Building Council.
